Fables and Friends Logo

Overview

Fables and Friends is a new reading-focused community in Melbourne, Australia, offering a relaxed, social alternative to traditional book clubs. Inspired by New York’s Reading Rhythms community, the concept revolves around individual reading in shared spaces—quiet companionship where book lovers gather, read independently, and casually exchange ideas and themes from their chosen books.

Design Goals

The primary goal was to visually capture the essence of Fables and Friends: a warm, inviting, and slightly nostalgic atmosphere that resonates with book lovers seeking social connection without pressure. The logo needed to communicate both comfort and individuality, highlighting the balance between personal space and communal presence.

Creative Process

I illustrated two variations of the logo to embody the community’s core ethos. The original design depicted two readers leaning back-to-back on the ground, encapsulating the comfortable, grounded nature of the space.

A new variation, requested by the client, featured the characters lounging on a cozy couch, legs casually draped over the arms, immersed in their reading.

Final Outcome

The final logo effectively represents Fables and Friends’ identity—softly nostalgic, welcoming, and visually charming.
