On the Road with Robert Todd: A Bridge Player's Workbook

Introduction

Robert Todd, celebrated bridge instructor and global educator, required a workbook to accompany his popular bridge seminars and private lessons. The workbook, "On the Road with Robert Todd," needed to mirror the dynamism and clarity of his in-person teachings while catering to students at varying skill levels.


This project reflects my ability to create engaging, structured educational materials that complement interactive teaching methods while maintaining aesthetic consistency with a comprehensive brand identity.

Design Strategy

The workbook's design strategy focused on clear, intuitive organization, making complex bridge strategies accessible to learners of all levels. Inspired by Robert Todd's extensive travel and hands-on approach to teaching, a cohesive "road trip" metaphor was adopted to visually represent a guided journey through bridge concepts.

Workbook Cover Design

The cover encapsulates the workbook's core concept—a bridge-learning adventure—through illustrative elements like winding roads and subtle navigational symbols. A calming palette of greens and neutrals fosters a welcoming feel, creating an approachable first impression that invites engagement.

Interior Layout + Design

The interior pages are meticulously structured for clarity, with careful attention given to typographic hierarchy, color-coding, and spatial organization. This thoughtful layout ensures the educational content is not only easily digestible but also visually stimulating. Graphic elements, such as directional markers and road-inspired motifs, guide learners seamlessly through lessons and practice exercises.

Typography

A carefully selected typographic palette, balancing readability and visual interest, was implemented to support extended reading sessions without fatigue. Clear headings and subheadings facilitate quick reference and effortless information retention, while body text remains unobtrusive yet engaging.

Impact + Reception

The workbook effectively mirrors Robert’s passion and clarity, strengthening students' learning experiences and providing a tangible, practical companion to his dynamic teaching style. Its positive reception underscores the success of the cohesive design approach in creating functional, enjoyable, and highly educational content.
