Bringing the Brand to Life Beyond the Website
Overview
After developing the brand identity for Trailhouse—a neurodiversity-affirming therapy and community center in Louisville, KY—I had the opportunity to extend that visual language into a line of merch and apparel. The goal was to create wearable pieces that reflect the playful, handcrafted spirit of the brand while remaining thoughtful, versatile, and design-forward.
This collection was designed not just as promotional material, but as a genuine extension of the Trailhouse experience. It’s something kids would want to wear. It’s something parents and staff would be proud to represent. It sparks curiosity and connection out in the world.
The Design Process
Creating this merch line was not just about aesthetics. It involved a deep understanding of the Trailhouse ethos. Every design choice was made with intention. The colors, patterns, and materials were selected to resonate with the community's values.
The design process began with brainstorming sessions that included feedback from families and staff. Their insights were invaluable. They helped shape designs that were not only visually appealing but also meaningful.
Community Engagement
The response from the Trailhouse community has been overwhelmingly positive. Families, therapists, and staff have embraced the collection. It serves as both a conversation starter and a comfort object. This reinforces the Trailhouse mission of connection, affirmation, and inclusive care.
The merch line has become a symbol of pride. It allows individuals to express their identity and connection to the Trailhouse community. Wearing these pieces fosters a sense of belonging and support.
Celebrating Neurodiversity
This collection is more than just clothing. It celebrates the diversity of experiences within the neurodiverse community. Each piece reflects the unique stories and journeys of individuals.
By wearing these items, people can share their stories. They can spark conversations about neurodiversity and inclusion. This aligns perfectly with the mission of Trailhouse—to create a space where everyone feels valued and understood.
Conclusion
Designing this collection deepened my relationship with the brand and the community it serves. It was a chance to translate abstract brand values into tangible, joyful products. It allowed us to celebrate all the messy, beautiful parts of being human.
The Trailhouse merch line is a testament to the power of community and creativity. It shows how thoughtful design can bring people together. As we continue to grow, we look forward to expanding this collection and exploring new ways to connect with our community.
In the end, it’s about more than just clothing. It’s about building a community that celebrates diversity and fosters connection. This is the essence of Trailhouse, and we are proud to share it with the world.
